Preparation

For preparation, Palm leaves must be separated.

When possible select a smooth surfaced leaf (such as the bottom one in this photo) for making crosses. The upper leaf has a harder middle spine which may crack on bending.

Use leaves approximately the length of your arm.

Prepare each piece by removing any woody outer surface. Overzealous stripping, can cause loss of the leaf by making it too narrow. Control this by occasionally using scissors to start the cut.

Snip off unsightly tips. But if too much is removed, the ends may be too wide to insert through loops in the cross.

Note: We have received several requests for more information about exactly what to order from the florist to make the Crosses. Click HERE to open a special window to read as much information as we have on this matter.
